Silk Tie with Hand-Embroidered Initials: How It Works, What to Choose, Who to Give It To

A tie with initials is the one men's accessory you can personalise without anyone but the wearer noticing. At Lorenzi Como every tie can carry up to three initials hand-embroidered on the back, included in the price. This page explains how it works, what to choose and who it makes sense for.

What you get, exactly

  • Up to three letters, embroidered by hand in our workshop on Lake Como.
  • Position: on the back of the blade, where the tie closes. Visible only when the tie is untied.
  • Thread: white, on every tie colour. Legible when the tie is untied, invisible on the front.
  • Price: no surcharge. A 3-fold with initials costs €160, the same as without.
  • Which ties: every tie in the range, 3-fold, 7-fold and grenadine.

How to order

  1. Choose your tie in the collection.
  2. On the product page, under Personalisation, enter the initials (three at most).
  3. Complete the order. Personalised ties ship within seven working days.

One thing to know before ordering: an embroidered tie is yours by definition, so it cannot be returned. Double-check the order of the letters.

Which initials to choose

There is no single rule, but three conventions cover almost every case.

FormatExampleWhen
Two letters, first and last nameG.R.The most understated and the most common
Three letters, first, middle, lastG.A.R.The Anglo-Saxon tradition, good for graduation gifts
A couple's two initialsG&MWeddings and anniversaries

White thread is a deliberate choice: on navy, burgundy or black it stays legible without ever becoming an ornament, and on light shades it melts into the silk. The monogram exists for whoever unties the tie, not for whoever looks at it.

Why hand embroidery and not machine

Machine embroidery punches the silk with thousands of dense stitches and stiffens it at that point. Hand embroidery uses a few longer stitches and leaves the silk soft: the blade folds as before, and nothing shows on the front. It is the same principle as the slip stitch that holds the tie together.

Who to give it to

  • Groomsmen: one tie each with their own initials, in the same cloth. The guide to ties for groomsmen helps with the colour.
  • Father, father-in-law, godfather: a solid grenadine with initials is the gift that does not age.
  • Graduation, first job: a navy 3-fold with a micro pattern.
  • Clients and partners: for multiple orders with the same initials or a company monogram, write to us before ordering.

FAQ

How much does it cost to add initials?

Nothing. The embroidery is included in the price of every tie.

How many letters can I have embroidered?

Up to three. Latin capitals, with or without full stops.

Can I choose the thread colour?

No: the embroidery is always in white thread, on every tie.

Do the initials show when I wear the tie?

No. They sit on the back of the blade, covered by the knot and the blade itself. Only whoever unties the tie sees them.

How long does it take?

Shipping within seven working days, by express courier.

Can I return a tie with initials?

No. An embroidered tie cannot be resold, so it is not covered by the 30-day return.

Can I order several ties with different initials?

Yes: each tie in the cart has its own personalisation field.
