Woven in Como from fine silk satin. Small light blue polka dots on a dark blue satin ground - a tonal pairing that reads as subtle and cohesive. The satin weave gives the surface a smooth, even sheen, while the dot pattern adds a quiet cadence. Cut by hand on the true bias, then assembled as a classic 3-fold. The slip stitch, bar tack and closing are finished by hand.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a tonal polka dot different?
When the dots share the same color family as the base, the pattern reads as texture rather than contrast. It's the most understated way to wear polka dots — refined, never obvious.
What suit and shirt combinations work best?
Navy or mid-grey suits with a white or light blue shirt. The tonal palette pairs particularly well with summer-weight wools and lighter tailoring.
Is this tie suitable for weddings?
Yes, especially for daytime ceremonies and warmer-season events. Its softer palette feels seasonal without being informal.
How should I care for a sartorial silk tie?
Never machine wash. Hang the tie loosely after each wear to let the silk recover. For wrinkles, steam gently from a distance — never iron directly.
Care
This piece is crafted from pure silk or silk satin and finished by hand. To preserve its drape, lustre and shape over time:
- Dry clean only is recommended
- Avoid machine washing or soaking in water
- Do not bleach
- Do not tumble dry
- If needed, steam gently or iron on very low heat on the reverse side, avoiding direct pressure on hand-finished edges and seams
- After use, let the piece rest flat, loosely folded or gently rolled, away from direct sunlight and heat sources
- Do not store it tightly compressed, to protect the fabric and the hand-rolled details
With the right care, the fabric will keep its depth, and the piece will age with quiet character.

3 folds or 5 folds
3 folds - the classic Italian construction. Silk folded three times on itself: fluid drape, defined knot, soft structure. The tie you'll wear most.
5 folds - the rarer craft. Five folds, no interlining: the tie falls by the weight of silk alone. Fuller at the knot, more alive in movement. For those who seek the sartorial detail.
Both are hand-stitched in our Como atelier. Request either one by writing to us.
How to tie a tie
Four knots, from simplest to most formal: Four-in-hand, Half Windsor, Windsor, Pratt.
