BLACK SILK SATIN BOW TIE - Self-tie
Description
A classic self-tie bowtie cut from dense silk satin, designed for evenings where formality meets ease.
Made entirely by hand, it offers a soft sheen and a balanced shape once knotted.
The adjustable band allows a precise fit, while the self-tie construction preserves the small irregularities that make a bowtie feel alive rather than mechanical.
Worn with a tuxedo or a dark suit, it adds presence without shouting - a quiet mark of ceremony.
Color: Black
Pattern: Solid
Material: Silk satin
Composition: 100% silk
Each Lorenzi Como tie may be personalised with up to three initials, discreetly embroidered at the back, at no additional cost.

Is this a self-tie or pre-tied bow tie?
This is a self-tie bow tie. The satin silk is cut to produce a symmetrical butterfly shape when correctly knotted. The slight asymmetry of a hand-tied bow is the mark of an authentic finish.
What occasions call for a silk bow tie?
A silk satin bow tie is appropriate for black-tie events, formal dinners, and ceremonial occasions. In Italian tradition, it can also appear at daytime weddings with a morning suit or a very formal navy ensemble.
How do I achieve the correct bow tie proportion?
The bow should not extend past the outer edges of your shirt collar. When tied, the width should roughly match the distance between your collar points. Adjust by pulling the loops and tails until the proportion feels balanced.
Is satin too glossy for daytime wear?
Satin is traditionally reserved for evening. For daytime formality, a matte silk or grenadine bow tie reads as more appropriate. The sheen of satin catches artificial light — at dinner, it works; in daylight, it can appear overdone.
Care
This piece is crafted from pure silk or silk satin and finished by hand. To preserve its drape, lustre and shape over time:
- Dry clean only is recommended
- Avoid machine washing or soaking in water
- Do not bleach
- Do not tumble dry
- If needed, steam gently or iron on very low heat on the reverse side, avoiding direct pressure on hand-finished edges and seams
- After use, let the piece rest flat, loosely folded or gently rolled, away from direct sunlight and heat sources
- Do not store it tightly compressed, to protect the fabric and the hand-rolled details
With the right care, the fabric will keep its depth, and the piece will age with quiet character.

3 folds or 5 folds
3 folds - the classic Italian construction. Silk folded three times on itself: fluid drape, defined knot, soft structure. The tie you'll wear most.
5 folds - the rarer craft. Five folds, no interlining: the tie falls by the weight of silk alone. Fuller at the knot, more alive in movement. For those who seek the sartorial detail.
Both are hand-stitched in our Como atelier. Request either one by writing to us.
