STONE 3 FOLD SILK GARZA TIE
Description
Woven in Como from 100% silk grenadine, this tie has a distinctive, three-dimensional texture-airy to the eye, yet compact and stable in the hand. The open weave creates quiet depth and a soft matte finish that reads elegant rather than shiny, making grenadine one of the most versatile cloths in classic menswear.
Each tie is cut by hand on the true bias and assembled as a classic 3-fold. Finished by hand at key stress points, it returns to shape after wear and keeps a clean, natural line down the chest-structured, but never stiff.
Designed for a life beyond a single season, it brings restraint and texture to tailoring, working as naturally with a business suit as it does with evening wear-always quiet, always correct.

What distinguishes garza fina from garza grossa in grenadine silk?
Garza fina has a tighter, smoother weave that lends itself to formal occasions. Garza grossa has a more open, textured weave with visible mesh that reads as slightly less formal. Both are woven without a printed surface — the texture is the pattern.
Is a grenadine tie appropriate for summer wear?
Yes. The open weave of grenadine silk allows airflow, making it one of the more comfortable options in warm weather. A solid grenadine in a darker shade pairs well with lighter summer suits in linen or cotton.
How should I knot a grenadine tie?
A Four-in-Hand knot works best. The natural body of grenadine silk holds the knot without needing a heavy construction. The dimple forms easily due to the fabric's texture and drape.
Why does grenadine silk feel different from printed silk?
Grenadine is woven on special looms that create an open gauze structure. It has no sheen — it absorbs light rather than reflecting it. Printed silk is flat and glossy by comparison. The difference is in the weave, not a finishing treatment.
Care
This piece is crafted from pure silk or silk satin and finished by hand. To preserve its drape, lustre and shape over time:
- Dry clean only is recommended
- Avoid machine washing or soaking in water
- Do not bleach
- Do not tumble dry
- If needed, steam gently or iron on very low heat on the reverse side, avoiding direct pressure on hand-finished edges and seams
- After use, let the piece rest flat, loosely folded or gently rolled, away from direct sunlight and heat sources
- Do not store it tightly compressed, to protect the fabric and the hand-rolled details
With the right care, the fabric will keep its depth, and the piece will age with quiet character.

3 folds or 5 folds
3 folds - the classic Italian construction. Silk folded three times on itself: fluid drape, defined knot, soft structure. The tie you'll wear most.
5 folds - the rarer craft. Five folds, no interlining: the tie falls by the weight of silk alone. Fuller at the knot, more alive in movement. For those who seek the sartorial detail.
Both are hand-stitched in our Como atelier. Request either one by writing to us.
How to tie a tie
Four knots, from simplest to most formal: Four-in-hand, Half Windsor, Windsor, Pratt.
